Essayli and Brown LLP Files Emergency Lawsuit Challenging Newsom’s Closure of Orange County Beaches

Newport Beach, CA – Today, Essayli & Brown LLP joined with the Dhillon Law Group Inc. to bring an emergency court action challenging Governor’s Newsom order to close all Orange County beaches.

The lawsuit is filed on behalf of several local elected officials, and alleges that the Governor lacks the legal authority to close the beaches. The lawsuit further alleges that the closure of the beaches violates state and federal constitutional rights of Orange County residents to freely enjoy the coastline and beaches.

We are asking for an emergency court order to block the enforcement of Newsom’s order and allow all residents to enjoy the beach this weekend. Based on official statements from local law enforcement, the public has demonstrated that they can enjoy the beaches while still heeding public health directives to exercise social distancing.
